QUILT CHALLENGE 2009
"Memory Lane"
The Challenge Committee wants unique
quilts for this challenge. No
look-a-likes here.
You choose your favorite colors. You choose
what size quilt you want, from wall hanging to king-size.
This quilt will be uniquely yours because
it is about you. As you go down "memory lane" with your quilt,
we all will share the ride and get to know you better. Show and tell
will be lots of fun with this one.
Below are suggestions only. YOU
are in the driver’s seat. So use this as a guide to jog those
memories, and start sewing. Use traditional blocks, piecing, applique,
painting, whole cloth or collage, etc. Printed novelty fabrics
will work well here too. This could be done as a block-a-month, if those
deadlines tend to sneak up on you.
Suggestions:
A Star is Born (that’s you)
When I was young ...
My Pets
My First ... (kiss, car, job, child)
I Lived ... (where, how, for)
Best Vacation Ever
If I Could Be Anything, I Would Be .... (a do-over opportunity)
Moving and Grooving ... (music/dance, U-Haul truck, sports, playtime)
My Favorite Things ... (family, chocolate, sewing, garden, etc)
The Golden Years (if you are not there yet, make a plan)
ENTRY INFO
-
Entry fee for PPQG Members --
waived, as the fee is part of membership dues.
Non- Members -- You are encouraged to participate in the
challenge, but we request you join PPQG. Your entry
fee will be the membership fee, and this will help pay for the prizes
awarded.
This change was necessary because of a
lack of funds to provide cash awards for winners.
CATEGORIES - Two
categories will be recognized this year - Hand Quilting and Machine
Quilting. All submitted items will be categorized by the type of
quilting they contain. If an item contains both hand and machine
quilting, the majority type of quilting will be used to determine the
category.
DUE March PPQG Meeting 2010.
We will have a guild quilt show at the
March meeting, and then have the quilts to show again at the Cody Country Art
League Quilt Show in April.
LINK - It happens that Blockcentral.com
is having a free block of the month named "Memory Lane".
If you wish to see their pattern click on the link. You may use
their pattern for this challenge if you wish. Just remember to make it
about YOU (your memories) with your choice of fabrics.
Challenge committee: Linda
MacDonald, Jane Neale
We are excited about this challenge. We look forward to
learning more about each other with the show & tell. A short
written description or story to accompany the quilt is encouraged.
